Therapy for Moms

"Motherhood is magical. You're going to miss this. Soak up every second!" .... and other lies you've been told.

Being a mom is hard. You are needed constantly in ways you never expected. Everyone has unsolicited advice, comments about what you are or are not doing, and an opinion that they have to share.

You start to question yourself. Become stressed out by simple decisions. You are so exhausted from the sleep deprivation and the mental load that you are barely functioning. And yet you still know where everyone's things are all the time.

You didn't realize you didn't know what overstimulation was until now. You think you might actually go insane from hearing "mom" every two seconds. You count down the minutes until bedtime and then scroll through old pictures of them until you are crying.

And then people tell you it's not that bad. You should be grateful. You have a partner that shows up and actually parents with you. It really shouldn't be this hard. And then the mom guilt creeps in.
Guilt about having a hard time, guilt about not loving every minute, guilt about going to work and not being with your kids, guilt about staying home and not contributing financially to the household. Guilt about wanting a break, guilt about spending money on yourself, guilt about getting frustrated.

And then there's the 50th tantrum of the day. You have tried so hard all day to keep it together. To have patience, to be playful, to give choices. And you lose it. The rage that has been bubbling beneath the surface explodes. And then you feel like a failure. Like the worst mom.

You are not alone. You are not imagining how hard this is. Society does not support moms in the ways that are needed to truly thrive in motherhood.

You can be the mom you want to be. You can find the joy again. Let's rediscover your identity as a mom, and as yourself.
